Melmond -- that way you have something to do! Rebuild the place, get a statue in your honor, etc :)

I'd typically venture the NES... but after playing subsequent rpg's over the last 20 some years...

Having an expanded inventory area is just too handy :)

As far as 'ethers' and MP versus spell levels... it depends on what kind of game you're looking for. Something quick, easy, throw away... then use the newfangled stuff.

For a much more interesting and fun time, keep with the original :). Am I the only one that 'enabled ineffective' on the ports that allowed it so melee users miss ? :P

Thinking about reloading my current iPhone game with this party. Early game physical acceptableness, fire/ice caves might pose a problem if ya don't level the RM to where he can use FIRE2/ICE2 spells. Once ya get beyond that.... you'll be using items for most of your casting anyway. Late game, the ninja gets the only two important late game bm spells (IMO, haste / temper).

I'm taking this party through the iPhone version of the game (similar to the psp ver)... and having not played in quite some time, I was a unaware of the Soul of Chaos dungeons and such (WTF?! heh).

The normal game was a cake walk. The BB was typically dealing out 1.5-2.0X the damage the warrior / knight was... so with the warrior as the tank, RM as a lesser tank/wm user, and then BB in slot 3... with a touch of haste/temper, it was pretty much just a stroll in the park. Granted, I think I leveled 8-10 times while trying to get warmech... but... :)

The SOC dungeons have proven to be... a tad more interesting. Currently around level 68, and the lack of a WM in the party is REALLY starting to hurt. Need the high level heal spells :(. I can take out Omega in the life spring grotto, but the other boss is proving to be a tad troublesome :(. I might visit the Air dungeon and work on a rune staff for heal2 (stupid new names they came up with, grr).... or grind tiamat just before chaos.

On a side note with this party, excalibur, masume, bb --- on non boss characters, i typically hit for 1000/1000/1700 with the front three since ppl reached 8/16hits.

Just a heads up that it doesn't seem to be possible to land your airship on the oasis in the iPhone version. probably true as well for the PSP version.

I'm a web developer, so I have my FF tricked out with all sorts of add-ons for debugging pages.

For casual browsing, Chrome all the way. Aside from the occasional bug, it seems to use less memory than IE8, Opera or Safari (and a ton less than FF).

I have to vote NES because I'm a sucker for the original and retro.

FF Origins (PSX) is my favorite of the remakes, and the version I play most often.

DoS/PSP are fun in their own right, but I don't understand all the easy-mode changes. I thought we were past the era where RPGs had to be softened up for US releases. What happened to my spell levels and frustrating difficulty, eh? :P

This party is actually pretty doable in DoS/PSP I'd imagine. The thief dishes out punishment on par with the fighter, and can use the money savings on tons of healing potions.

I would consider it a real test to endure this game on NES.

Class change will be like Christmas morning for this group.
