| Airship | I never cared much for the airship theme, but I actually like this one. Lots of drums and whatnot. |
| Battle Theme | If you like the FF1 battle theme, and let's face it, who doesn't, well, you're going to love this. |
| Boss Battle 1 | This is one of the themes that plays when you fight a Fiend (I think). It's all fast paced and whatnot, typical of battle themes. Very nice. It's amazing how much of a difference a bunch of cymbals can make. |
| Boss Battle 2 | This is the other song that plays when fighting Fiends (I think...) It sounds very similar to the other battle theme, but slightly remixed. |
| Boss Battle 3 | The default boss theme. It's a sort of remix of the regular battle theme. Be prepared to slobber. |
| Bridge Building | This music plays during the cutscene on the Bridge, among other places. It's light and bouncy. |
| Castle | The Castle theme from the NES, only about 10x better. They play all kinds of drums, that make this song a military kind of feel. |
| Chaos Battle Theme | The theme that plays when fighting Chaos. This could easily fit into any of the later FFs. The quality is really quite good. It has just enough little bits of the regular battle theme to make it fit FF1, and enough other parts to make it interesting. Very suspenseful song, fits the last battle well. |
| Church | The Church (or Clinic, if you will) gets its own music in the PSX remake. It sounds like a church organ, and it's a remix of some song I can't quite put my finger on (Prologue?). This song won't knock you out of your chair, but it's worth getting. |
| Crystal Revival | No clue where this song is played. |
| Dead Music | The music that plays when you die. This song has a ton of base, and reminds me of one of the Garden themes from FF8. Not a long song, just a little tune to make you even more sad once you die. |
| Dungeon Theme | The dungeon theme that's used for a ton of dungeons. This is one of the better songs in the game. Get this one. |
| Dungeon Theme 2 | This music plays plenty of places. It's remixed so much you can hardly recognize it from the NES version. An excellent, excellent song. |
| Ending Theme | I've always loved the Ending Theme, and this version is almost too good for my poor brain to handle. It sounds very much like some FF7 music, and it has lots of harps in it. |
| Fanfare | A little fanfare that's played in various places in the game after key events. Basically it's about 5 seconds worth of the battle fanfare. |
| Floating Castle | The tech-ish theme of the Sky Castle. I never cared for this song, but this version is OK. It has weird sound effects, like someone banging a wrench on a flagpole. |
| Getting a Key Item | Another little fanfare, that plays after you get certain key items. |
| Gurgu Volcano | Sounds like xylophones, but whatever it is, I LIKES IT. |
| Inn | This is the music that plays while in the Inn. It's very typical FF-ish, and it's really really really really good. |
| Lute | This plays when you use the Lute to enter deep into the ToF. It's a remix of the Prelude, only played on a Lute. A very good idea for the game, and a very good song. |
| Matoya's Cave | This song is played in plenty of places, and this version of it is pretty darn great. This wasn't ever my favorite song, but this is easily the best version of it I could imagine. |
| Menu Screen | The song that plays while you're looking at your menu. This is really high-pitched and sort of whiney, but I really like the effect. It's quiet enough that it won't get too terribly annoying after hearing it a thousand times. |
| Opening FMV | This song plays during that new opening FMV they added to the game. It's a pretty good song, but it's more impressive when the movie is playing too. |
| Opening Movie | This plays during the opening cutscene in which the elements are shown going berserk and whatnot. Fits the movie well, and is a good lead-in to the Prelude. |
| Overworld Theme | Worship this song. WORSHIP IT. |
| Prelude | What else is there to say, except that this is the Prelude? Well, not only is this the Prelude, it's probably the BEST version of it I've heard, counting the PSX FF versions of it. They really know how to make PSX music sound good. |
| Prologue | Don't listen to this song if you have a heart condition, because the sheer greatness of it may be fatal. Seriously, this is the greatest song ever put into an FF game. |
| Save Music | A few seconds worth of twinkly music that plays when you've saved. |
| Sea Shrine | This music plays in the Sea Shrine. I didn't care for this song in the NES version, but this is a very good remix. Sounds almost like some FF7 Sephiroth music. |
| Ship | I never liked the ship theme, but this is OK. Lots of base, and not as high-pitched and annoying as the NES version. Much more muted. The darn wave sounds in the game still make this SO annoying in the game though. |
| Shop | The song that plays while you're shopping. It's hard to even describe, but I like it. |
| Submarine | When you submerge the submarine, you hear this little song, along with bubble noises. Very short song. |
| Temple of Fiends | ToF: Revisited theme. Some of these PSX songs are so much better than the NES versions that you can barely tell they're the same song. This one is just amzingly good. |
| Town Theme | I LOVE THIS SONG. This ties the Prologue for my favorite song in FF1. I can't even describe how good it is, so I won't try. |
| Victory Fanfare | The music that plays after you win a battle. I'm so inspired now. |
Does the Menu Screen theme play in the japanese version?
This is probably one of the best pages on this site
Boss Battle 1 is may favorite music in the whole game!
I hate these arrangements. Listen to the WSC and NES versions, much better.
Okay okay, Gurgu Volcano is cool and so is Dungeon Theme 2. The Ending Theme is okay, but lacks an ending. :(
How could they murder (at least the beginning, it gets better near the end) the Gurgu Volcano song that much?
i love this games music! except gurgu valcano... they butchered it!
The reason why this is nowhere near as cool as the NES/WSC stuff:
The Uncanny Valley
The chiptune versions are just so dang far from anything "real" that we fill in the instruments and it sounds really epic and amazing. But this GBA stuff sounds close enough to real traditional symphonic instruments that we can hear how much it /really doesn't sound anything like real instruments and is just a bunch of crappy synthesizers/. It's so close to the truth that it seems weird and uncanny, meaning that our suspension of disbelief is out the window. It's like really realistic CGI. It's so close to humans, and yet there's something weird about it. So our minds flip out and say, "No no no no no no no." But, we don't flip out when we watch Disney cartoons because they're so caricatured that we accept them.
The Prologue is simply the most amazing most epic piece of music in the entire series
complete with the scrolling text for the bridge scene it really reminds me of the Descent II credits scroll with that awesome music theme. Man I'm weird
we are all weird here
Boss Battle A is great stuff. Second-best boss theme in the series.
