WOOT! I got first vote! don't make me choose, you monster! also, whats the difference between nes and virtual console, other than the different controller styles, anyway?
NES version. It's the only one I know, anyway.
There's a Wii version?!
@ToastedSandwich8 The Wii version is actually the NES version. Its pretty much the same thing. It might as well have been paired up in the same option as the NES and Famicom versions, but that's my opinion
I would have voted dawn of souls but as I haven't played the others (yet) I voted they're all good.
The ninja kind of got the shaft in a lot of the previous versions. The ninja-specific weapon, katana/sasuke was meant to be the only really high criting weapon (except for maybe masamune?). Thus, turning the ninja into a criting machine, But a bug in the NES gave all end game weapons high crit chances. They never fixed this bug in the remakes, but in the handhelds they made up for it by boosting the ninja's attack to match the Knight's. They also added new gear for all the classes and I think the handhelds are the most balanced games, class-wise.
I have played about half of the remakes and nothing compares to the original for me. I'm sure nostalgia has something to do with it!
I think the two best are the NES version and the PSP version.
I chose Origins because it's the most similar to the original while still fixing some bugs and annoying crap. If everything worked as it was intended, the NES version would be my favourite by far. All the remakes look too bright and happy compared to what was going on. Somehow the lack of detail and activity is better for capturing the desolate atmosphere. And of course it had all the best lines.
Like Nicole, I was torn between the PS1 and NES versions. I went with NES for the nostalgia value.
Looks like all but 3 versions are dead in the water. Not surprising.
yeah as only 3 were actually decent
Actually. I think that the Famicom and WiiVC versions are not getting voted on because they actually are just the same as the NES version, The WSC version, i believe has its own merit (the music being awesome) the mobile phone version, which no one has played, DoS, i can't see anyone choosing that as their fave (not any serious FF1 player anyway) and the MSX version... well, IDK about anyone else, but that one gives me a headache
WIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow, i never thought someone would actually vote for the Wii version (now to see if anyone will actually vote for the Famicom version)
WonderSwan Color version is my favorite.
Man, tough decision. When choosing between NES or Famicom, I just had to go with the NES. You just don't get writing like that anymore. But, the Famicom doesn't have the dang censorship and bugs, so it's awesome, too.
And the chiptune music beats the crappy MIDI anyday. The WSC added tracks are fantastic, and you can't beat the original NES. Bam!
NES, hands down. I'm still waiting for the NES version to be released on a handheld. These upgraded graphics and dampened difficulty just don't have the same appeal as the original.
Nevertheless, I'm still going to buy the iPhone/iPod touch version. Who can resist any version of Final Fantasy?!
I like 'em all, but went with 20th Anniversary Edition... for no logical reason.
It's a tie between NES and NES, im torn.
it was close between the nes and ps1. the ps1 was the best remake since it stayed truer to the original. i went for the original.
NES NES NES
Nes, not in quality in graphics, but in originality.
GBA is 2nd best to me. But NES just has a soft spot in my heart
Nothing beats having to mash the A button for 20 minutes to buy 99 potions. NES is best.
you monster, but seriously I'm facing a tie between NES, WSC, and PSP
I've emulated the WonderSwan version. The only difference seems to be the graphics really so it's pretty good. The downside? I can't read Jap.
I agree w/ Namek
i voted for the wii cuz im too 1)hi-tech 2) im too cheap ,and 3).....im 13
Take it how you can get it. Denying yourself from any chance is ridiculous.
In terms of classic ones, I like the NES one best, with the MSX version coming very close second (the upgraded graphics are nice and the music/sounds won't annoy you as fast)
In terms of the remakes, I perfer the PSX one. The WSC is expensive and Japanese only, the GBA version is crippled too much, and the PSP one, while having great graphics, loses points for having the GBA features. The PSX one, however, keeps most of the original gameplay elements and just tosses some nice graphics and bug fixes on top of it
NES for the win!
while i love playing the new ones, i worship the old compared to the new!
I never found the ff1 rom's on MSX, and I see no difference between the Famicom and the NES version !
Best version has got to be the one on the iPhone, its FF1 on your awesome phone plus, the graphics of FF1 on the NES look to bad, on iPhone I would say they are okay and good enough like the GBA version.

I have to vote NES because I'm a sucker for the original and retro.
FF Origins (PSX) is my favorite of the remakes, and the version I play most often.
DoS/PSP are fun in their own right, but I don't understand all the easy-mode changes. I thought we were past the era where RPGs had to be softened up for US releases. What happened to my spell levels and frustrating difficulty, eh? :P
I'd typically venture the NES... but after playing subsequent rpg's over the last 20 some years...
Having an expanded inventory area is just too handy :)
As far as 'ethers' and MP versus spell levels... it depends on what kind of game you're looking for. Something quick, easy, throw away... then use the newfangled stuff.
For a much more interesting and fun time, keep with the original :). Am I the only one that 'enabled ineffective' on the ports that allowed it so melee users miss ? :P
