Hello (06 Apr 17:26)

I updated a bunch of stuff. Check out the GBA enemies page at least.

Now I can start working on fanart and whatnot. May not be done today but it'll be done soon enough.

Ugh... (31 Mar 22:42)

You never realize how screwed up your FF1 website is until you try to fix it.

I have a new enemy chart done which includes all the DoS-only enemies, along with screenshots of all of them. But I still can't upload it yet. Almost though. I just need to fix up some sprites pages. Probably this week sometime. Then on to fanart.

ps I'm probably also making a new message board for this site. From scratch. Hopefully that doesn't take long.

Progress (23 Mar 00:22)

The bad thing about having a real job is that I get home at night, and I think "Should I work on the FF1 site? Or should I work on work?" Then I remember that work pays me large sums of money. And the rest is history.

But I had today off, so I finished updating a large part of the DoS info, including all the weapons/armor that I've been missing from those pages for a long time. And I realized that all the prices for all the spells on the DoS page are wrong. And so on. But I haven't uploaded any of the new stuff yet, because if I did I'd break the whole site. So we'll have to wait.

I have also mentally worked out how the fanart section is going to work. But I can't upload it until everything else is done, or I'll break the internet. Thems the breaks.

Plans (12 Mar 23:08)

After long months of deliberation, I've determined that the way to make this site good is to find ways of updating it regularly that don't involve much work on my part. This involves either writing scripts to do all my work for me (which is actually fun for me, compared to doing manual labor), or finding other people to do all my work for me. (Thanks again Nicole.)

I put in a good evening of work on the site tonight, including a rewrite of a large portion of the scripts driving the NES section. (None of which is uploaded yet, so don't bother looking.) This is in preparation for finally getting off my arse and completing the charts and data for all the remakes. I have figured out a pretty good way of getting this done without much manual labor on my part, so I hope to have it done soon. E.g. I got the DoS armor chart data including all the new DoS-only armors into the database in about 25 minutes; the other charts shouldn't take quite so long, is my hope.

I am looking for a photo gallery script that works under Ruby on Rails which will allow people to upload their own fanart automatically, so that the fanart section can be reborn. This will remove my lazy self from the equation (other than moderating uploads). If I can't find a suitable script I'll have to write one, which I hope won't be too hard.

I'm also going to be looking for some affiliate sites in the near future. If you run a fairly popular website and would be interested in a link exchange, please email me. Many Final Fantasy sites don't have a very comprehensive FF1 section, and linking to mine can make up a bit for the deficit for your users.

I may be asking for volunteers / contributors to help with some other things. If you're interested, stick around.

Behold. (11 Mar 20:35)

Behold PSP Unne in all his glory.

Recently I purchased some items which allow me to take screenshots of FF1 on my PSP. This is good news for this site, since I can now work on the PSP section.

Here are some teaser screenshots... they look pretty good quality to me.

Well I guess it really ended a few days ago. Thanks Nicole for doing a great job running the tournament and updating it on time and keeping it interesting. It was the best thing that's happened to this site in a long time.

I think Nicole has some more things planned... stay tuned. </mysterious>

Looking for all the comments that used to be on the frontpage? I moved them to a shiny new Feedback page, aka the Comment Graveyard.

I do like feedback (in fact, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy), but it was making the frontpage way too big, what with all the news items. And I'd like to encourage people to respond to the news items individually.

Sorry (26 Oct 21:05)

So yeah, that whole moving across the country thing? That kind of killed a lot of my time this past month. I'm typing this from my spare computer, because my computer with all my website stuff on it is about 2500 miles to the east of me right now. On the bright side, Oregon is pretty nice this time of year.

I was working on the tournament before I moved. I put up a teaser link. The good thing is once I finish the scripts, my girlfriend is going to actually do the updating, which means there's a chance it'll be done regularly and on time. Yay.

PSP acquired (22 Sep 13:08)

I caved and bought a PSP and FF1 for it. I'm pretty impressed. I'll write a review as soon as I'm done (i.e. once I beat the game).

Sadly I don't know any way of getting screenshots from the thing other than using custom firmware, which I'm not quite prepared to do. So I'm not sure how much my PSP will directly contribute graphics or things to this site. But I'll see what I can do.

PSP Reviews, Credits (09 Sep 12:26)

I added a list of PSP reviews. Most sites seem to have given the PSP FF1 mostly positive reviews, which is to be expected. I have yet to play it myself, largely due to not owning a PSP, but someday maybe I will.

I added a much-needed Credits page to list some of the many people and places I've gotten info from over the years.

RSS + bugfixes (03 Sep 18:44)

Making the new layout broke pretty much every link on the site, due to changing from PHP to Ruby on Rails. I'm trying to get some redirects set up to point you in the right direction of you use an old PHP link, but there probably will be a lot of broken ones remaining. Such is life.

I just fixed a bug in the RSS feed. It should have working links now rather than displaying ERB template code. Oops.

I don't think I ever used the pink pirate gif before. Enjoy.

I updated the NES weapons page to include more information, take a look.

I also changed the comments scripts to indicate when I make a comment, as opposed to someone else named Brian, so that people can't pretend to be me. Not that I think anyone would be that sneaky or anything.

I got the GBA PC sprites page back up and running today. I also tweaked the Armor and Weapons a bit to be more graphical.

I am thinking about how to do the tournament again. I don't want to start it and then have it fizzle out again, so I want to put more thought into it this time. Don't worry.

I'm working on all kinds of things today. I'm still trying to fix up some errors that may prevent some pages from rendering properly. But things look to be working better than in the past at least.

In other non-news, I'm moving to the west coast soon. Right now I'm on a mini-vacation trying to prepare to move. That means for the first time in a long while, I have time to work on this site quite a bit. So expect lots of updates in the coming days and weeks.

Changes (26 Aug 15:45)

You may have noticed a few changes. I have been working for the past couple months on a redo of the site, to better incorporate the remakes as well as expand the NES info. After yet another change of hosts for my site I decided to go ahead and deploy this new version.

You'll notice many broken links, as usual. But many other things work. For example you can leave comments on any page. Be sure also to check out the NES parties page, I think you'll find it better than before.

Also newly completed is Chapter 2 of the Dawn of Souls walkthrough, taking you through Pravoka.

Leave me a comment if you have any idea or feedback. I'll be working on the site more in the days and weeks and months to come. In the meantime, enjoy.

Testing 1 2 3 (18 Aug 14:07)

I am now testing the news posting script I wrote.

Part of the testing of this script requires that I type a large amount of text, so as to test the stretching of the layout tables downward.

To that end, I am continuing to type things beyond what is strictly necessary to indicate that this is a test post.

Eventually I will have reached a suitable amount of text, at which time I can cease typing. In fact that time is fast approaching. Almost here. OK done.

EDIT: OK, now I'm testing whether my script gives me suitable ability to edit news postings. If this text appears, it indicates success. If it does not appear, I have failed at my task. Actually I'm typing more here to stretch the tables further, because the text I typed the first time was not sufficiently long as to properly stretch my news-containing table cells downward. Here's hoping this further addition will suffice.
