![]() Sorry I haven't been active here quite so much. Most of the reason for this is that I'm making my own FF-style RPG. Surprise!
You can see a very, very, very preliminary demo (video) here. Most of the art is just crap I threw together to make sure the game engine works. The whole thing is written from scratch, so it's slow going, but fun so far. Stay tuned for a playable demo probably in another month or two at this pace.
Nicole is helping with the art/music/ideas/everything but the programming. Give us both some encouragement if you like. | |

Looks interesting. Are you planning to use the same classes as in FF1 or a wider variety, or are you going to make up your own?
Undecided. Possibly zero classes, single-player party. Nicole continues to try to talk me out of that idea.
Must... Help... making... sprites...
Hey, that's cool.
Any help you need from us outsiders or anything let us know! I can help with stuff like equipment/stats/stuff.
I may very well ask for help with sprites or music. If I do this'll be the first place I ask. But I'd like to give it a go myself before I ask others to do it.
that's all fine and dandy. whens the tournament?
I was very tempted to do the same thing to test my programming knowledge. I have the theroies I need to start formed, but I haven't actually started programming
Nice work...it's a good so far. ^_^
I love all the little sprites running around. It's so chaotic that it's cute. I can't wait to see where this goes!
We approve.
Trouble loading the vid on my current comp, but this sounds exciting.
/Definitely/ would love to help with the music, if possible. I can do anything from NES chiptunes to simple piano to full orchestra. Usually sounds pretty decent.
@FF1BlackMage14: Are there any samples of music you've made that I can download and take a listen to?
the people all seemed to be the same, also, they appeared to be multiplying
also, did your video come with sound? im trying to ffigure out if the lack of sound was u or me
They were all the same and they were multiplying (on purpose). No sound.
Name idea: Attack of the blonde haired, red robed NPCs from <insert any name of any evil realm here>
(I'm not being serious)
from Mordosum. all evil realms MUST start with the letter M.
Why, yessir. I just discovered bandcamp.com, so I've got a very new, very rough account there currently. Still working out the kinks, but here's probably the best bet for some of my music:
http://gentlemanaboutsound.bandcamp.com/album/filmmaking-years
"The Early Years" is really old stuff (I'm talking middle school, so not a good representation of what I can do. But it's when I did the most of my composition, so it has more than anything else), and the "A Cappella/Arrangements" album is stuff I haven't written, and it's all from a few years ago, too. My prowess at mixing is much better now than it was even a few months ago (my a cappella version of "Tribute" is pretty well mixed, probably better than any of the other stuff on here).
P.S. "Angeline's Song" gets fun about 3:53
Encouragement given.
Hello Brian. My name is Sandy. Yoroshuku.
I read in the 'news' that you with Nicoles help are making a FF-style RPG. Great to hear. Alwasy nice to know someone else is taking an interest in the genre.
I thought I would give you a few links to check out in hopes of further spurring your creativity.
The first is for Byond.com, Byond.com if you are unfamiliar with the site, is a site completely about fan made games. When you download the client you recieve three different progams. One for connecting to the game-hub and playing the games there, one for making your own games, and the third program is for hosting the games you make. The game uses a code-language similar to C++ with lots of built in procs. to help make games faster.
Here is a link for some fan made FF-RPG's...
http://www.byond.com/members/?command=top_search&text=Final+Fantasy&type=games
That brings you to a page with several fan-made FF-style RPG's. Some are very similar to older FF games, while others are a bit more unorthodox. The one I play is called FF-"The Hunting Grounds". Currently in version 7, and nearing version 8. Best thing about FFHG... "Eight person Parties"! That's right, not to mention a great chat function, and ten different classes to choose from.
Another link I thought I would put here is for a sprite making program that comes built in with many of the sprites from FF3, it gives you the character sprite sets, the monsters, and items, all at your disposal to redesign.
That link is...

Hope they help. Enjoy!
Oh I wanted to post this other question so soon after my last one. But I was going to post this on the forum when I realized it didn't really fit into any of the categorys.
I wanted to suggest that like many of the forums I currently am an active member of, if you would please consider implementing a "view the most recent posts" button on the forum. Makes tracking the latest conversations easier and helps forum members to follow the buzz.
And maybe a "suggestions for this forum" area of the forum :::lol::: to keep the comments on your page to a minimal?
you know you can start new forum threads, right?
Yeah sorry about that, I didn't mean to post that last post here.
Nice demo, looks promising!
sorry I havent been on in about a month! :) getting my internet changed <Don't ask> anyway im back now good luck with the game Brian
Keep at it! Ever since I discovered Microsoft's XNA framework, I've been working on a project myself... so I can empathize with your challenge. A coding project with such a small team is a monumental undertaking. Don't give up! With the classic RPG games getting on in years, it will be up to the genre fans to carry the torch. Good luck.
I like your colours.
WHY. WON'T. YOU. START. THE. TOURNAMENT!
Possibly because Brian's out of the state this week and I can't code.
There's no "Make Tournament" button? how sad :P
And there's a such concept as patience. It really helps in life
I don't mean to sound like another whiny internet person with an inflated sense of entitlement, but WHAT'S GOING ON, EH?
Brian man, where ya been? Whatever happened to this game you're doin'? What happened to almost definitely starting el tournamento like two weeks ago? We care about you, bro. Broseph. Broblerone. Brotel Rwanda.
He's always been like this. If he ever gives an estimated time for anything, multiply it by over 9000.
Bwahahahaha.
Time estimating any project is a real PITA. At work, after about 10 years, I've finally gotten it to where I can guestimate fairly accurately.
Home projects ? No chance in hell :). A 9000 multiplier is about right hehehe.
WHAT, 9000???
The game looks pretty good, but everbody in it is the same sprite.
That's because it's no where near complete...
I think there should ba different story with a wider varitey of classes, BUT DONT FORGET THE BLACK MAGES/WIZARDS!!!!!!!!!
You always have to have magic. I'm not sure how the class/skill-building system will be. I have a tiny little seed of an idea in my head, but I have to think about how it'd work.
I always liked games that had ab points to spend on skills and whatnot
do you have a different website to play it on?
We don't have a damn thing. This is going to be our project indefinitely.
There's also nothing to play yet. Unless brian's been working behind our backs
Definitely approve! Can't wait to see all the ideas come together.
cool
/thumbs up
Looks good. I'm just going to throw this out there - I've been working on a soundtrack to a non-existent FF-themed video game on and off for years now. It was originally played as a jam rock opera in a college band I played in, but I've only recently started orchestration and instrumentation in MIDI form. If you have any interest in giving it a listen, I'd get a big kick out of seeing an actual game to accompany this monstrosity...
I cant even watch it on my computor.
Hey Brian make it an MMORPG.
